Dutch police took a turkish man into custody in suspect of killing three people and wounded five on a tram in the Dutch City Utrecht. Utrecht police reported suspect, 37 year old Gokmen Tanis was the man they arrested. The city went into an immediate lockdown after the event of the shooting which was after the morning rush hour. Currently the authorities are trying to find a motive out of Tanis, but it is reported to still be unclear. The only possible motive is "family oriented reasons" It was reported that he shot at a relative and anyone who tried to help her.
This is so sad to hear about more and more frequent stories and news reports on all these shootings around the world. This event lead to the authorities raising their terrorism threat in Utrecht to its highest levels. Public environments such as schools were told to shut doors and there was a big increase in security in airports, mosques, and other vital edifices. It's really disheartening after hearing about the New Zealand shooting and the all of the other shootings that have been happening these past year or so. It's affecting our world so much with higher gun violence rates. According to research from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, almost forty thousand people were fatally killed via firearm, a figure that has increased by more than ten thousand people since 1999.
This is extremely sad. We need to fix our society so that these shootings don't happen around the world.
