Paul Manafort, Trump campaign chairman and lobbyist, was sentenced to almost 4 years of prison for financial fraud convictions after Robert Muller investigated Manafort for collision with Russia in 2016 election. Prosecutors are urked that the 69 year old hadn't been sentenced a more "substantial" amount of time. Though that is not significant, since Manafort was already convicted last summer for not paying taxes on millions of Ukrainian dollars he got from consulting politicians. He has to pay 6 million for not paying those taxes, and that number may go up with another trail in a few weeks for more crimes he commited.
Although I cannot help but feel slightly sympathetic, as he has been in solitary confinement for 9 months, and briefly spoke of how he does not recognize the man who committed those crimes, and that prayer and faith have helped him. Throughout the hearing of his sentence, he barely reacted in his wheelchair, shoulders hunched, hands in lap, and eyes bloodshot and focused downward.
On another note, Trump tweeted a quote out of context, saying that the judge stated "Loud and clear that there was NO COLLUSION with Russia", while that isn't exactly true. The judge said his prosecution has nothing to do with the alleged Russian collision, and all about Manafort's crime, but Manafort is still in question of Russian collision.
Previously to this, I really had no idea about Trump's campaign manager from 2016 being charged for many crimes. I was aware of the scandals surrounding Trump, but truly had no idea about Manafort. This is important because I don't know how many people know about the actual specifics of the scandals in Trump's admin. Manafort is crazy rich, and has commited way too many crimes. I can compare this easily to the scandals in Harding's presidency, such as the Tea Pot Dome scandal, in which one of Harding's admin secretly gave government owned land with oil reserves to oil companies. While this isn't the same as not paying taxes on millions of dollars owned from advice to Ukrainian politicians, there is still scandal in both Harding and Trump's presidency.
I'm glad to here that he finally got convicted.
