Matthew Zapata - Mistreatment of gay civilians

Summary: This week news broke out that gay people in Chechnya were being tortured, killed and kid-napped just because of their sexuality. These victims are living in fear of loosing they're lives for being suspected of being gay, so many are in hiding in various places around Russia. Around 40 chechens have applied for visas to come to the US and escape the life treating treatment by their neighbors, but almost all of them have gotten denied and are still living in danger.

Analysis: Hearing about this incident makes me sick. I can't believe that in the day and age areas around the world still treat the LGBTQ+ community like they are not humans. I further read that 2 of the roughly 40 that applied for visas got accepted which is progress but I'm still confused on why so many are yet to be safe from harm.
