Summary: After some complaints were made about a party that Jordan Edwards attended, Police arrived. Police say that gunshots in this Dallas suburb were heard and they were also there trying to take care of that matter. When the police arrived, Jordan and many other boys were trying to leave. The police officer who killed Edwards say that when the car was pulling off, they bagged back toward the police in an aggressive way. The police officer then shot at the car, shooting freshman in highschool Edwards in the head.
Analysis- For me personally, I'm very thankful that we have law enforcement and the protection of the police, but we hear way more bad news than good news. It's always about what a white police officer has done to a young black person. Is it such a coincidence that all of these, "accidents," are just happening?
Synthesis: This identically relates to the shooting of Traevon Martin a few years ago, when the police made a mistake and interpreted something in a different way. This also relates( since he was black) to all of the brutality brought upon all black people in the years before the desegregating and "racism is unconstitutional," laws in the 1920s on.

It feels as if though we are still stuck repeating history over and over again and we aren't doing anything that's working.
ReplyDeleteThe racism running rampant in America today is disgusting and terrifying. It's shocking just how many people ignore the fact that innocent black people are getting killed by police. There are certainly better ways in detaining a suspect, but this kid wasn't even a suspect in the first place!

People need to understand that bad actions cause bad effects. Don't provoke something as serious a police officer or car. We all know what has happened because of it whether it was an accident or not.

ReplyDeleteMy dad works for MISD and knew this student. Upon returning to school that Monday, all of the kids were crying and telling him that Jordan did not do anything wrong. It is awful that the color of our skin in 2017 still determines life or death and guilt or innocence. My prayers go out to his family and most importantly to the other kids in the car who witnessed this tragedy.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first heard this story, I was shocked. This is crazy.
