For a while, we have been hearing about the Hyperloop. Seemingly out of a science fiction novel, the Hyperloop is a tube- like vehicle that runs on a track at top speeds. So, what do we actually know about the Hyperloop?
- In 2013, Elon Musk drew a mockup and blueprints of the Hyperloop, and tasked engineers with the challenge to build it.
- Hyperloop Transportation Technologies is teaming up with UCLA to create the Hyperloop.
- The Hyperloop would travel 700 mph- the fastest mode of transportation ever.
- Solar panels would create the energy used to run the Hyperloop. It could make the 383-mile trek from LA to San Francisco in 34 minutes, and the 266-mile journey from New York to DC in 21 minutes.
- Designers of the Hyperloop are working create the tube so that passengers would not be able to sense that they are in motion.
- The tube would also be double reinforced, making it safe in any weather.
- The Hyperloop would be run on a closed system and operated by computer, making it the safest way to travel.
- As for stations, UCLA is designing a station that can traffic 6,000 passengers an hour.
- The Hyperloop is estimated to cost from $6 to $7.5 billion depending on what cars it uses. A one-way ticket would cost $20 dollars.
I totally agree with you! This could make a major advancement for our transportation...though it would probably start off very expensive.
