Summary: Nazanian Zinouri, an Iranian engineer, was ordered from the United States by an executive order that banned residents of 7 primarily Muslim countries from America. However, she was able to return to the United States after a temporary halt in the order was put in place, allowing green card and visa holding citizens to travel back. Zinouri was on a trip visiting her parents in Tehran when Trump was inaugurated, and immediately tried to get back to the United States when the order was issued. She was caught in Dubai, but was removed from her flight and forced back to Tehran. The news appalled her, and she was put at risk of losing the life she had developed after 7 years of living in the United States. Zinouri was finally able to return to the United States after a few days.
Analysis: This article was written on February 5, 2017, by David Allbritton and Emanuella Grinberg, to inform the audience about a woman's life that was seriously affected by her being banned from a country she had lived in for 7 years, based on ethnicity. I saw her Facebook post about her experience before I read this article, and I was just as shocked then as I am now. This woman, who has a PHD in industrial engineering, had so much assumed about her based purely on her home country. It's important that we stay aware of what is happening in our country and the new presidency. This relates to all the other immigrants who are being affected by the Trump administration and his new presidency.

I am so glad to read that this engineer made it back. I do agree with you that the citizens of the US better learn about all the changes and executive orders that are in place.
ReplyDeleteThis is so saddening. These recent changes are so intense and I think a lot of people are not educated on the possible consequences and situations that may arise such as this.
