Starbucks's New Holiday Cup- Zia Bella Blair 7th
Starbucks usually does a Holiday cup with festive colors but this year they are going green. The upcoming election has got most of the United States divided so the famous coffee chain has gone the direction of unity. They have hired the artistic genius of Shogo Ota to produce a special edition cup that will be available until the election. The green cup and the design represent the connections Starbucks has as a community with its partners and customers, said the Starbucks chairman and CEO Howard Schultz in a press release: "During a divisive time in our country, Starbucks's wanted to create a symbol of unity as a reminder of our shared values and the need to be good to each other." Twitter exploded with accusations of political brainwashing and the disrespectful of diversity, but that was in reality a small number of the population. I think that this is a cool message because after the election tomorrow there are still going to be the same people in the world and we are still going to have to get along. There is no "right" side and we all have different opinions but that should not affect our ability as humans to coexist peacefully. That being said, I do think we should elect a president that stands for that philosophy and not one who believes in dividing people by race, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation.

I think this is a really nice idea. Usually, there is always a controversy around the holiday Starbucks cup anyway- People always complain that it's either too Christian or not Christian enough. This election has really divided out country, and its comforting that some people are trying to bring it back together.
ReplyDeleteI think this was a great approach to remind people of the unity of our country since this debate has been so crazy.

It's cool that the design of a coffee cup can say so much about a company's beliefs and morals.
ReplyDeleteIm glad to hear that Starbucks is making their cup halve to do with what's going on in our country right now, its a neat idea and different from anything they've ever done.
