Jury Selection for Boston Marathon Bombing Trial Begins - Hannah Kalan 6th Period

Monday morning, the jury selection process began for the Boston Marathon Bombing Trial. The incident infamously took place on April 15, 2013 and killed 3 people, while maiming and injuring another 260. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev will be on trial expectantly on January 26th, when the trial is planned to start. The ultimate decision, in the end, will be to left to the jurors as to whether or not they would wish to impose the death penalty or life in prison without parole if Tsarnaev is found guilty. Over 1200 potential jurors were ordered to adjust their schedules for the selection process for the trial, which is expected to run 3-4 months long. And, hopefully by that point the trial will actually end.

I think it's about time that this trial actually began, after being pushed so far back for so long. And hopefully everyone selected to be involved will be able to make a just decision, resulting in the death penalty or not. And hopefully some of those hurt in or by the incident will at the end of this, be able to find some closure in the decision made.

  1. I am extremely interested to find out the in depth details and outcome of this trial. We are very fortunate in the United States to be able to select, hopefully honest, citizens that can contribute their thoughts and judgments to this case.

  2. I am glad that the trial is finally being held. Over a year and a half is a long time to wait for justice. My only hope is that the jurors are attentive to hard evidence and do not let hatred for this act get in the way of their logic. I don't know much about the facts of this case, so I don't know if this man is most likely the bomber or not, but it would be tragic if an innocent man was locked away.
