White House "We Made A Mistake" - Froy Gutierrez 4th

http://www.cnn.com/2015/01/12/politics/obama-kerry-paris/index.html

40 World Leaders and 1.5 million people attended the anti-terrorism rally in Paris, France. With the absence of high-profile American leaders, many were questioning the loyalty of the United States. President Obama was at the white house over the weekend, and the Vice President was at his home in Delaware. Meanwhile, secretary of state John Kerry had a prior commitment in India. The press jumped at the opportunity to chew american leadership out, despite the fact that the President was in France last Friday to work with the french over the tragic terrorist events. Nonetheless, many saw this as a weak point in American leadership and overall involvement across the globe. Potential candidates for the GOP , specifically Ted Cruz, criticized the governement "How said was it in the streets of Paris as 40 world leaders walked down the street. absent, was the United States of America."

Overall, this seems to be a relatively unnecessary backlash, as the President was in Paris a mere 3 days ago. This also harkens back to when the French assisted the US rebels fight against the British during the Revolutionary War. France was the country that brought the fledgeling Us into the global fray, and therefor, I see why many wish the US had participated.

  1. This is a very touchy subject. America has always been very picky in which battles they choose to fight in. But I do agree, it is a very unfair backlash. The President was obviously concerned and was in Paris, however people are upset because he wasn't there with the other leaders.

  2. I think people are just looking for an excuse to tear him down. He was there three days ago showing his support. The U.S. has shown its support multiple times in marches and at the Golden Globes. People need to take the focus off of the President and really think about France in this time.
