A couple of days ago, an African-American Yale student was held at gunpoint when he was just merely walking out of the library. The police say that he looked like a suspect that they were trying to catch, and they just mistaken him. However, this student's father is Charles Blow, a journalist who writes about the events of Ferguson and events like such. Blow was infuriated and a bit terrified. He said that it is one thing for his son to look like the suspect, but it another to be immediately held at gunpoint.
Whether we can admit it or not, discrimination still has not gone away. Charles Blow does have a point when he says that the police should not have pulled out their guns. I think that this is very scary situation for one to be put under, and that police should be more careful next time they suspect someone. Things like this can and is very controversial and we do not want any more conflict in our country than we have today.

This action seems almost racist. If it were a white male, would the police have pulled their guns out so quickly? Even in such an amazing school, there are flaws in the system.
ReplyDeleteAs much as we have grown as a society, we still have discriminatory undercurrents that shape our actions and thoughts. Almost, it seems, human nature.
ReplyDeleteWe will continue to face problems like this throughout the world. We are given the right to have our own thought and beliefs and it is such a wonderful thin, however due to this people may get tempted to express their hatred towards others in awful ways.
ReplyDeletei sort of disagree, in someway yeah it does seem like a racist act but you also may not now how dangerous is the criminal the police was looking for. sharon cordon 4th period
