Two Albuquerque officers charged with murder - Avery Alexander 6th period

Two officers in Albuquerque, New Mexico were charged Monday, January 12, 2015 for shooting a mentally ill homeless man. The process is skipping a grand jury. Since 2010, Alburquerque officers have been involved in 40 shootings causing 27 deaths. This step of charging the officers is rare because the nationwide protests against police shooting and brutality hardly leads to justice for the victims. The victim, James Boyd, who suffered from schizophrenia was seen surrendering as he was shot and killed by Dominique Perez and Keith Sandy.
This relates to American history because police shootings/brutality is not something that has not happened before. In the cases of Mike Brown, Eric Garner, and the many others that lost their lives to police officers, they did not receive justice and there is supposed to be justice for all.

  1. It's appalling that officers would do something like this: they are supposed to be protecting citizens, not killing them. From what you've included, it doesn't sound like the homeless man was really doing anything wrong.

  2. I feel cops should have less power in todays society. It seems that to many of them are getting away with their stupid actions.
