Children tear gassed by police -Alan Nino 2nd period

Police fired tear gas at children as young as six, who were protesting because their playground was being taken away. The children planned this protest on their own and they had no parent involvement. The police officer that led the tear gas idea was suspended and many people found the tear gas a wrong approach. People from all over the internet were also saying how it was wrong of them to want to rid of a playground because that's the main factor of a child's happiness. It should be about the children.

Freedom of speech has always been important, not just in America but all over the world. This relates to APUSH because throughout history, we've seen many people stand up for the change that they wanted to see. In this case, we see that children made signs in order to keep the playground. I hope they do and this just shows that we all have a voice and we can be heard if we really try.

  1. That is a bit drastic a measure to take on children like that. But that really shows how much our basic rights are being infringed upon from day to day. It's kind of sad how that works.

  2. Really? Tear gas? I completely agree. That was taken way to far for a simple protest. Also, the fact that he used it on children makes it even worse. This is the very first amendment in our Constitution and a basic right that everyone has in this country!!

  3. I can't believe this! The police should've been a little proud to see this group of kids sticking up for what they think is right. Instead, they take advantage of their power, and tear gas them.
