This past weekend two people were trampled to death on a farm in Texas. The owner of the farm, Peggye McNair, was one of the victims. The event occurred at Camel Kisses Farm in Wichita Falls. Mark Mere had gone in the camels' pin because their water had frozen over. While in the pin, one of the camels became aggressive and charged Mere. The camel got out of the pen and then trampled both Mere and McNair. When the sheriff arrived, all three camels were acting "aggressively."
Andreas Preuss wrote this article on January 11th. This article was written to inform the public of the odd and tragic event that occurred. It's incredibly sad that these two women were trampled by a camel that they had raised "like a pet." Before reading this article, I didn't know much about camels or how aggressive they could potentially be. I hope that preventative measures are taken to ensure that this doesn't happen again and that their families recover from this tragedy.

Unfortunately, rare deaths like this do occur. The main reason this got so much coverage, though, is because the animal was exotic. If the trampling had been done by a horse or a cow, as has happened before, then the news would be far from headline. The camel factor makes it very shocking.
