This week, David Ortiz, member of the Boston Red Sox, gave President Obama a jersey with his name on it, and had Mr. President take a selfie with him holding up the jersey. Samsung tweeted the picture because it was taken with a Samsung phone. The White House went crazy over this, saying that the president should not be used for financial gain. Samsung has not said anything about this issue.
I really think this is rather ridiculous. David Ortiz said he did not take the selfie for financial gain, but simply to take a selfie with the president. Where is the harm in that? They shouldn't be in such an uproar about it. I mean, seeing that a celebrity took a selfie with another celebrity using a certain phone is not going to make me want to buy that phone. It's a ridiculous notion to think something like this can cause such an uproar. It's just a selfie. The Pope takes them, and you don't see anyone doing anything about that. Yes, perhaps Samsung shouldn't have shared it, but I doubt anyone decided to go out and buy a Samsung Galaxy because of that.

people say anything just to say something. if Samsung s using it hey they're getting money that they will have to pay back to the government anyway. Win win situation
ReplyDeleteByron Otis- I don't think it's the selfie that's causing the uproar as much as it is the White House making it clear that the president didn't endorse Samsung using his image in this way, so that it doesn't look like he's endorsing a product.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I guess that's true. But I still do not see the big deal on a single image. Maybe it's just because I'm not pulled in by advertisements.
ReplyDeleteThere should be a selfie of the Pope and the President
ReplyDeleteMaybe Samsung's budget is going down, if it resorts to retweeting presidential selfies to get attention...
