A Trip With a Fatal Result - Beatriz Ruiz 4th period

Students from over 31 Southern Californian High Schools were headed north to attend "Spring Preview Plus" a program which invites low-income and first generation prospective students to the Humboldt State University. The program offered students stay in residential halls, attend events and get involved with graduates, staff, college students. All of this was the plan for 3 buses that would do a caravan together all the way to the university taking all these students. They were traveling on interstate 5 by the city of Orland when the trip was sadly interrupted in the afternoon of April 10, 2014. A FedEx trailer claimed to be already in flames before the crash,  crashed into one of the buses, holding 44 students, 3 chaperons , and the driver on board . This resulted in the death of 10 people which only 4 (students) have been identified and over 30 hospitalized. The other 2 buses part of the caravan made it to the university and were placed in dorms and were offered counseling. The identification of the corpses is still in process as the survivors are trying to communicate with their families.
