Fort Myers Police warn public of scammers acting as police officers-Yesenia Ramirez Monroy
Recently there has been many scammers who have been calling people's phone, and trick them that they are the police asking them to pay a fine. When they call they tend to demand a fine of $500 immediately which causes the victim to be scared because they might not know what's going on. The caller also usually tends to threaten the victim by saying they will send officers to collect the fine. They also claim to be "Jeferrey Harvey" from the Fort Myers Police Department, but no enforced law agency would call or show up at your home to collect any fines.
This report was provided by WFTX Digital Team on May 13,2019 with the purpose of alerting citizens of recent scams and informing them of how to avoid this issue. This video provides information to citizens on how no authority can charge you to pay fines unless you go to court or receive a legal document that states that you owe money. These days we can see how some people try to take advantage of other by oppressing authority on to others. This can be seen as a violation of the "4th amendment" in the Bill of Rights because citizens are being threatened of searches and arrests. This amendment is significant because no one should be able to search your home nor you unless they have a legal document that gives them the authority. If they were to proceed with the search they would be invading your privacy and you wouldn't like that.
