Kamala Harris Announces Plan to Close the Gender Pay Gap - Emma Hancock

Kamala Harris Announces Plan to Close the Gender Pay Gap

Senator Kamala Harris of California has announced a plan for companies to certify that men and women are paid equally in order to close the Gender Pay Gap. This plan would also require employees to obtain an equal pay certification every two years. Senator Harris has also proposed plans to increase the pay of teachers, executive actions on gun control, and her LIFT program for refundable tax credit. As of now, women are shown to make 80 cents for every dollar a man makes and Harris' hope is for that to change.

Although this plan might turn out to be faulty because of the time it takes to enact, I think the idea of making companies more aware that the government cares about the pay gap might encourage them to make a change. This reminds me of the time after world war II when men returning from war were offered their jobs back and most women went back to the home because of the pay decrease.

  2. I think this is a positive step in the right direction. There is no reason for unequal pay for equal work of the same quality. I am glad Senator Harris is taking action to right this issue. Lily Philips
