A transgender woman that was attacked by a group of people was found shot in East Dallas. The police currently have no leads as to who could have been the killer of the 22-year-old woman. Edward Thomas was arrested after the first attack which was video taped and spread online. He posted bond and was released from jail earlier this month. The police are currently investigating whether or not it should be classified as a hate crime.
It is so sad to hear of things like this happening in my town. When looking for articles it was shocking to see yet another tragic event attached to Dallas. I hope that more can be done to prevent issues like this in the future. I also hope that justice can be brought to this case.
The fight for transgender rights is a relatively new issue, but the cause is extremely important. We need to be working to prevent tragedies like this in the future through legislation and deeper understanding of people that are different from us.
