In the deeply red panhandle of Miami, Florida, 3 FM stations have announced that they will be playing 2 minutes of Trump's speech every day until Election Day in 2020. After Trump promised federal aid to victims of Hurricane Michael that are still struggling at the rally in the panhandle, the stations figured this decision would be popular. This free airtime for President Trump's campaign has received mixed opinions. Other candidates from other parties have been welcomed by the stations, the owner stating that he is welcome to give them airtime if they do a rally in the panhandle.
This is an interesting choice for a radio station since politics haven't been extremely involved on the radio. Florida has always switched between republican and democratic, but the airtime for Trump might encourage more to join the republican side. This is very similar to FDR's fireside chats when the radio was first becoming popular and I wonder if this will have a similar positive effect for Trump's re-election.
