On Wednesday Alabama’s governor into law a measure to ban most abortions in the state. The Legislature’s approval and the governor’s signature did not immediately outlaw the procedure, however, and it is unclear when the measure will take effect. Under this measure, women who have abortions will not be prosecuted, but doctors who perform the procedure will be charged with up to 99 years in prison. Although the bill has been signed abortion services will still be available until the measure takes effect in about six months.
This issue, similar to the Georgia abortion law issue. Banning abortions will never stop them from happening, and it pretty much just ends up hurting more people.
