The Alabama Senate approved a measure on Tuesday, it stated that it would outlaw almost all abortions in the state. This would set up a direct challenge to Roe v. Wade , this case recognized a woman’s constitutional right to end pregnancy. The legislation banning abortion’s at every stage of the pregnancy and criminalizing the procedure for doctors could be charged with felonies and can also face up to 99 years in prison. Exception for cases when the mothers life is at risk, but not for rape or incest.
This event is related to the Roe v. Wade case in 1973, except instead of an abortion being legal, it is now being banned. It states that it shouldn’t be legal even if it had to do with rape or incest. With an exception of the mothers life at being risk.
99 years is extremely excessive. Would a failed procedure just be charged as attempted murder?
