414 million pieces of trash found on remote australian island - will goodell

around 370,000 toothbrushes and almost 1,000,000 shoes were found among 414 million pieces of trash washed up along the shore of an island off the coast of australia.  the study, which was published by the journal scientific reports on thursday, found that the australian territory was littered with 238 tonnes of trash, despite having a population of over 500 people. the islands located in the indian ocean are considered australia's last unspoilt paradise. most of the rubbish was single use plastics, such as bottle caps, straws, shoes, and sandals. one quote from the article that struck out at me was this " islands such as these are like canaries in a coal mine and it's increasingly urgent that we act on the warnings they are giving us. this article is similar to the muckrakers that published articles and books about the meat industry.
