Today, we will be talking about children and discipline. Many parents nowadays don't have the whole discipline thing down, but in Canada, a new technique has risen. The belief is that anger doesn't solve a problem, but instead just stops the problem from being fixed. In Inuit, calmness and teamwork are valued in their culture. Raising children calmly is proven to make the kids cool-headed in the future, and make them generally relaxed adults. But, to get them to listen, they tell stories that have morals and teach them lessons. Throughout history, people have always responded better to interesting stories rather than just lessons. Why not make it more interesting?
In the past, parents have been very harsh to children for punishment, whether that mean scolding verbally or physically. Although many parents may say this was for the children, it is typically for the parents to get their anger out. If you are going to teach a child how to act, why not give them a positive role model to follow? This article exposed me to another culture that I would support other parents using, and it persuaded me through the effectiveness. (I highly recommend you listen to the audio; there is the most precious little girl talking about her love for stories)
