Last Sunday, Taylor and his dog Ally went out to get gas when his SUV got stuck in the snow. He said he then fell asleep, and woke up Monday morning with even more snow outside his car. He was unable to get out of his Toyota 4Runner, but when he did get out and tried to walk, the snow was too difficult to manage. By Wednesday, after last being seen Sunday, a missing persons alert was put out for Taylor. Authorities were told that Taylor stayed warm by turning on the car periodically, and eating some taco sauce packets he found. It’s still not clear how he got water or where it came from though. Friday, a snowmobile rider called police and told them he had seen Taylor. Authorities responded and dug out Taylor and his dog with a huge construction vehicle.
This article created by Amir Vera, CNN, was published just a day after Taylor was found stuck in the snow for a week. This was great news for people following this story. Prior to just now hearing about this, I had no knowledge that any of this happened. I do believe it is crazy that this man survived off taco packets for a solid week. The snow also must have been beyond awful if all he could do was wait. This article reminds me of the blizzard of 1967 in the Midwest. This storm came out of nowhere and killed 76 people. The snow was falling for 23 hours straight, and it trapped many inside, like Taylor was inside his car. Businesses were closed. Public transportation was shut down. Cars were abandoned in the streets in Chicago. Taylor in Oregon was experiencing similar things, besides the fact that he went out to get gas for his car. Both stories though, show the dangers of the snow, and what it can do to the environment!! The audience was definitely people trying to keep up with the story, people that lived near Taylor and his disappearance. This article, in my opinion, was written to describe just how powerful snow and snow storms are. Blizzards in the past have killed thousands, they make a whole city go without function, they essentially shut everything done. Not to mention how dangerous they are, they are not anyone’s friends. I think the article is trying to convey that people need to take better, or more proper, precautions when dealing with the snow because it’s very unpredictable and threatening. This article is important because it points out a man who got stuck in the snow for 5 days because he went out into the snow when he wasn’t supposed to. He did not prepare with enough precaution before preceding too. People need to take from this article that the snow isn’t a joke, what the weather people say isn’t a joke, and that in order to be safe people need to consider the consequences of them going out into horrible weather unprepared.
This crazy and I would really like to know how him and the dog survived through this but this is really amazing.
ReplyDeleteIt is always unbelievable to hear about incredible survival stories like this. I know that if this happened to me, I probably would panic and wear myself out, so seeing that Tyler managed to make it through with a clear head is a very pleasant surprise.
ReplyDeleteIt is funny to notice the two possible perceptions of this man’s story, one being that he was extremely unprepared and put himself at great risk, and the other being that he was incredibly resourceful and quick-witted.
