Massacre Disguised as Fire | Daniella Castanheira

On November 20, 2018, two days before Thanksgiving, Paul Caneiro shot Keith Caneiro, his brother, before entering the dead man's house in Colts Neck Township, NJ,  and murdering Keith's wife, Jennifer, and his children, Jesse, 11, and Sophia, 8. According to officials, Paul then took documents and set a fire in the basement. Afterwards, Paul went to his own house and, in an attempt to hide the evidence and make it look like both families were being targeted, tried to burn it down with gasoline. Paul's own family was inside at the time, but fortunately made it out safely. After firefighters were called and investigations were done, Paul was finally accused of the killings more than a week later. Prosecutors say that a possible motive for the homicides lies in the brother's company, Jay-Martin Consulting, but nothing has been confirmed.

This article was last updated on December 2, nearly two weeks after the fires had been lit. The author of this article is Nicole Chavez, and its audience is anyone who cares for justice. Because of this, it does come off as biased against Paul Caneiro. Even though it is very likely that he committed the crimes, given the evidence, the article only starts off saying that Paul "allegedly" did this and finishes by selling it as the truth and nothing but the truth. This can be related to the cover-up of Jamal Khashoggis' death. Although they have wildly different circumstances, they both show off the fact that people will do whatever it takes to benefit them self, even if it means resorting to murder.

  1. It’s so sad that this was right before thanksgiving like it’s supposed to be about family time, people are trust crazy and don’t think about their actions.
