A Visual History of ISIS - TIME https://apple.news/AV688T_GwSy-hEfZDfA2oBw
Peter Van Agtamael is a photographer who has put together a journal of powerful pictures reflecting and often occurring in the wake of terrorism. The collection explores all sorts of subjects and are portrayed in a variety of ways and span from the fall of the Ottoman Empire in 1922 to the recent missling of Syria. From portraits of Syrian President Bashar Assad to curious trinkets to a still life of the beard and and hair trimmings of ISIS fighters who had fled and disguised themselves to blend in with the civilians, these telling photos demonstrate a sort of early draft of history which helps us see different perspectives.
After the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, President Bush announced and launched what he called America’s “War On Terror”. Here we are seventeen years later with all presidents since in some way honoring and continuing this struggle. Be it from the Boston Marathon, in Oklahoma City, or Iran, the American government continues this battle with more active and threatening organization such as ISIS, as well as with domestic terrorism, as seen in the Uniting and Strengthening America Act by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001.
