The Mormon Church Is Cutting Its Century-Old Ties With the Boy Scouts - TIME https://apple.news/APHXt3xl7QDG_QfLPvscNlw
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are in the process of fully severing ties with the Boy Scouts of America, who in 2015 began allowing homosexual people to serve as counselors or have other positions in the organization, which violates the Mormon religion. They have moved more quickly to detach themselves after girls were allowed recently to join. This divergence in values will result in the Mormon boys’ representation of about eighteen and a half percent of the 2.3 million youth in the organization to withdraw and, instead, file into a program which the church is still developing.
The Church was founded in the United States by Joseph Smith and has always been a concentrated, but prominent population in our country. For their values and their significance, they were likely a large part of the Silent Majority of the 60s and 70s, those who did not agree with the counterculture created by young liberals and radicals and the challenging of traditional values.
