Live Caged Tiger at Miami Prom Draws Rebukes and an Apology
A high school in Florida recently held a prom with the theme "welcome to the jungle". They decided it would be cool to have a live tiger at their prom. (in addition to the tiger, there was also a lemur, 2 macaws, and an African fennec fox.) After seeing videos and photos on social media, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commision decided to investigate. Even though the animals had clearly been stressed at the prom, everything had been done legaly. No rules had been broken.
This really bothers me.... I understand that it could seem "cool" to have live animals at prom. It's unique. It stands out from all the rest of the proms. However, these animals were in the middle of everything. The tiger was placed in the middle of the dance floor. This is not okay! This is so stressful for these animals. I feel like there could have been a better way of doing this. They should've been put away from all the music and craziness that comes with a dance.

You can’t take animals out of there element and prom is definitely not a place for them to be comfortable. I can’t believe they took it this far.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many issues with this idea! The safety of both the students and the tiger, the condition of the tiger to make it behave around said students, what condition the tiger was in before brought to prom, and definitely what sort of organization the school worked with that allows tigers to be brought to events like this. This is honestly horrifying-hunting beautiful animals like this is bad enough but keeping them sedated (possibly) to be shown off at a party is even worse.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Victoria, and another point is the fact that the zoo allowed those animals to be put into that environment, it just shows how they don't care.
