Brooke Simpson-Mike Pence's 2024 Campaign is ON

Mike Pence’s 2024 Campaign is ON

Mike Pence has gained interest of Republican officials, and has been privately following his own wishes against the president and creating a strong base for himself.  Pence has a leg up on Trump in a few areas that could election chances.  Pence has been a member of Republican party for years and a Republican governor and House member while Trump has been all over the place with party membership.  As the sitting Vice President, he can use his power to help him get people to support his run for presidency, which he has already started.  Pence has many politician friends, which the current president doesn’t have because he is a Washington outsider.  While Trump’s lack of ties to Washington made him an appealing candidate to many, support within the government can certainly help the election.

The article was written by Chris Cillizza on May 14, 2018, for CNN Politics.  The article is important because it shows how seriously candidates have to take the presidency because Pence is planning on running in six years, which is an extremely long time to wait to see if you can be president, but then again, the president of the US is arguably the most powerful person in the entire world, so planning ahead six years doesn’t seem like that long of a time.  The article was written to alert mostly Republicans that Pence’s political career is not over after Trump’s presidency is, but that Mike Pence is in politics to stay.  The article can be compared to Reagan and H.W. Bush’s presidencies because H.W. Bush was Reagan’s vice president, and he announced that he would be running for president three years in advance, about a year after Reagan was reelected.  Pence has to wait for the 2020 election, where Trump will mostly likely run again so Pence cannot run then, and then the whole possible second term of Trump’s presidency to run on his own ticket.

  1. It's scary how realistic this situation is. Pence definitely has the backup and standing to be elected, and since he's much smarter than Trump, there's no doubt he could get quite a lot more done to push his agenda.

  2. it's unnerving to think that Pence might be the president and he has the beginnings of a great support as it falls out of Trumps favor.

  3. It should be interesting to see how this goes. While I want to say it is unlikely that he will be elected because of the projected demographics in 2024, many said the same thing about Trump.
