Sadie Schiermeyer- Death Row Escape

On Monday, the supreme court ruled in favor of a man on death row. The man had pleaded innocent in court yet his lawyer pleaded guilty against his will. This caused a whole other debate- whether the mans 6th amendment rights had been violated. The lawyer claimed to have good intentions in trying to avoid the death penalty and failed. As a result, inmate Robert McCoy will be getting a new trial regarding his rights.

I think it’s great that this man is being given a chance to prove he is innocent. The amendment that protects this right frankly is more important than the amendment that protects guns and it needs to be treated that way. I don’t personally agree with the death penalty so this works out well in my mind. Especially in the past, I feel like the death penalty was enforced to much.  Now that he is speaking out for his innocence, maybe the amendment will catch fire once again.
