On Saturday night in Tampa, Florida, Cirque du Soleil performer Yann Arnaud fell during a show and died. In a statement Cirque du Soleil said that Arnaud was an aerialist who had been with the company for over 15 years. After falling he received medical attention right away and was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died. Although the cause behind this fall is unknown, an audience member stated that before Arnaud fell he was straining to hold onto the rope.
This is very concerning, especially because this isn't the first time something like this has occurred with Cirque du Soleil performers. In 2013 a 31-year-old aerialist died after a fall in a show in Las Vegas. In this incident, Cirque du Soleil was charged with six citations, which leads to the question concerning safety. Did Cirque du Soleil fix the issues that caused a death in 2013? If not, did the same thing cause Arnaud's death? At this point, what is the cost of our entertainment?

I wonder with this accident if cirque du soleil will come out with an official statement about what happened or if any of the performers will quit.
ReplyDeleteThis is so scary! Due to the fact that this has happened before, I hope that they would really take action.
