Seanelle Higgins: The Children of South Sudan

Summary: Over one million children have fled South Sudan to escape conflict, and about the same number of children are displaced within the country. Since 2013, South Sudan has been wracked with a civil war, and atrocities like ethnic cleansing have been taking place. These children account for 62% of the refugees fleeing to neighboring countries. 3/4 of the children are not in school, the highest proportion in the world.

Analysis: I think that this is a very sad situation and I hope that it gets resolved soon. I strongly believe that all African countries can be developed or semi-developed in the future, but in order for that to happen, conflicts like these need to be resolved, and the children of the country need to go back to school. I hope that these children find safety and peace wherever they are.
