Olivia Moretta: Elementary School Teacher Accused of Hitting Child

In Oklahoma City, an elementary school teacher was accused of "popping" four-year-old King Tullis in the mouth. After his grandmother picked him up for being "disruptive in class" and dropped him off with his mother, she noticed that his lip had been busted in two places. When she asked what had happened to him, he put his head down and immediately became quiet. She assumed he had hurt himself on the playground or while playing with another student, and didn't think anything more of it until she received a call from an assistant teacher the following Monday. She claimed to have witnessed the teacher hit Tullis on the mouth. An investigation is being conducted, but the results are still up in the air.

Situations similar to these leave people wondering why scandals of this nature are spanning the nation like wildfire. It seems as though rape, abuse, and exploitation are becoming more and more common in schools, but that may not be the case. In my opinion, things like this have been happening since the beginning of time, but now people have the resources and technology to share their stories with the world. In 2014, the Los Angeles unified School District was exposed for the Miramonte School Rape Scandal. This event, among hundreds of others, goes to show that abuse of power in school systems is more common than people expect, and is only gaining momentum in the media due to the availability of new technology.
