Summary: Hitler's phone sold for $243,000 at a US auction. The bid was made by phone but the name of the buyer has not been released. The phone was originally given to Hitler by the Wehrmacht and he used it to call most of his commands during WWII. The phone was recovered in 1945 and has been kept in an English country house ever since. The auction house called it the "most destructive 'weapon' of all time" because of how many people were killed due of commands given through that phone. Ranulf Rayner, who auctioned off the phone, said that his father took it a few days after the war ended. "My father didn't see it as a relic of Hitler's glory days, more a battered remnant of his defeat, a sort of war trophy," he told CNN. "He never thought it would become an important artifact." He said he's glad to get rid of it now.
Analysis: I would have never thought that someone would have the phone after all these years. I'm also interested to find out why the person bought it. I would think something like this would end up in a museum. This could relate to WWII when the phone was first used. Hitler used this phone to kill millions of people. It's crazy to think that something as simple as a phone could cause so much pain.

ReplyDeleteWow this is very interesting. I, too, would like to know why the person bought it! It's crazy to think that such a simple and highly used device could be used to hurt so many people.
ReplyDeleteThat is so crazy that someone bought the phone for so much money, and I wonder what they will do with it. I agree with Emma, it is crazy that something we use so casually was used to destroy so many lives.
