As technology develops further and further, methods of seeing TV shows as well as movies become easier and easier. Nowadays, you don't even have to get in the car and go to the cinema; you can just look up the movie on Netflix. This year, streaming video services are changing how Oscar-nominated movies are seen. For instance, Manchester by the Sea, a film with 6 nominations this year (including Best Picture), was distributed by Amazon Studios and will be available on Amazon Prime in May. Shows like Stranger Things, made specifically for Netflix, are also being nominated and winning awards. Services like this are changing the way we award film and impacting the very way we watch.
I scrolled for probably 7 minutes looking for a news story that didn't have anything to do with Trump or with politics until I finally just went to the Arts page. Thank goodness for that. This article was written yesterday, February 3rd, so it's very recent. It's Oscar season now, as the nominations came out recently, so it's relevant. Before reading it, I knew of the nominated films, and I was also aware of shows made for Netflix winning awards. I think the article was written to restate something we all probably are aware of, but may not think about. Every day, watching TV or film is just a few clicks away. We have entered an age of mass cultural consumption. Of course, depending on the person, this can be seen as a good thing or a bad thing. Either way, it's important that we are aware of how our lives are changing with technology. This can be related to the Industrial Revolution in the 1800s. As manufacturing became easier and faster, people's daily lives changed drastically.

I love this! Movies have become part of our culture and have developed the way we see things in this world.
ReplyDeleteI think it is important to be aware of the movement in technology and adapt as humans with it.
