In this article, the New York Times talks about trying to stay relevant today. They must improve their demand, so they can still produce the news stories of today. Their approach to getting attention is to take a Netflix approach. This approach consists of the New York Times being so high in demand that people want to subscribe from all over the world and pay for that subscription. They are under the impression that they are going to be around for a really long time due to their authenticity. This means they believe that they produce fair, accurate news stories, and that is ultimately what the people need to hear. Overall, by taking a more modern approach, the New York Times could continue to be extremely relevant in the news-giving area of society.
The New York Times started in the 1880s while yellow journalism was in full swing. In these times, people would exaggerate news stories to the point of absolute absurdity. That was about 165 years ago, and surprisingly, this newspaper company is still around today. I agree that in order to have success in a business, you must have an incredibly high demand that people are willing to pay for what you are producing. A more Netflix-y approach would be a very smart, strategic move on their part for them to benefit from a longer company lifespan. In conclusion, I think the news will always be relevant and in high demand with so much always going on in the world around us.

The idea of "staying modern" with the stories is a nice idea, though that makes you think what were they writing before. The New York Times serves as one of the most well-known newspaper in the nation and to think that writing what the people need to hear is a new concept is worrisome.
ReplyDeleteThough the writing of the New York Times does lean a little left and is not necessarily always unbiased, I think that it is still one of the most established news sources that is one of the few that still fact checks their information. With all the flippant Facebook reposting of untrue articles, fact checking for newspapers on the internet in this day and age is extremely relevant.
