Summary: In Louisville, Kentucky, Louisville Metro Emergency Services received 52 overdose calls just within 32 hours. In a 32-hour time frame last week, there were only 25 calls. Most of these overdoses have been heroin-related, although none resulted in deaths except for a driver and passenger that crashed a car while on the drug. Several other random clusters of overdoses have occured and people are not yet sure why. For example, in Cuyahoga County, 14 people died of opioid overdoses during one weekend just in this month. Over 60% of autopsies done in this county have been a result of overdoses.
Analysis: Emergency rooms are seeing more repeat patients and it is thought to be that these people need to be admitted to the hospital rather than treated and released. It is a terrible thing to see that drugs are being abused more and more every day. In January alone, Metro Emergency Serives received 695 overdose calls, which is an average of 22 per day. Hopefully authorities and, more importantly, researchers can get to the bottom of this to help protect our people.

I fi it crazy how they see the same patient multiple times. If they know they have a problem they should get them help, not just let them go back and do it again.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the comment above and think there really should be more awareness of frequent patients.
ReplyDeleteIt is so hard to believe the amount of people taking drugs knowing what they can do to you. These drugs can end your life all at once or ruin the rest of your life. It would be nice to see these people get treatment that works.
ReplyDeleteIf you just help someone and release them you aren't fixing the problem. It's crazy how many people are overdosing just recently
ReplyDeleteKiri Luckey: this is such a tradegy! I agree these people need help beacuse if they are repeatedly over dosing they are not understanding the weight of this situation.
ReplyDeleteYes I agree, people should realize their need for help and have others help them in the realization.
ReplyDeleteIs horrible to know that a lot of people are abusing the amount of drugs their taking, it's not healthy they should seek help.
