Synopsis: The White House national security adviser Michael Flynn has just resigned. This news comes less than a month after Flynn accepted said position, which awards him with one of the shortest terms of any senior official ever recorded. There have been rumors that Flynn is at risk of extortion from the Russian government, due to giving "incomplete information" to U.S. officials about his conversations with the Russian ambassador. He admits to such actions in his resignation letter. He goes on to apologize to the people of the United States and to it's leaders. This sudden change will certainly result in temporary dysfunction in the White House as they work to find a replacement.
Analysis: The first thing I find interesting about this dilemma is that it is partially caused by Russian forces. Trump has made it a point in the past to boast about his friendly relations with the country's leader Vladimir Putin, but his people are now the reason behind the resignation of one of Trump's advisers. It also goes to show that the Russian people are not very good fans of us or our government. This whole situation is also very telling about the kind of people Trump has surrounded himself with. One of his most trusted officers has just admitted that he knowingly provided inadequate information. I just hope this doesn't reflect the conduct of any of his other officials.
Synthesis: This sudden resignation can be synthesized to the "White House shakeup." During the weeks following the 2004 election 12 cabinet members resigned from their posts. The abrupt and extreme change in the government makeup caused a significant amount of chaos as the remains cabinet members worked to replace those they had lost.

It sounds like our own leaders have close ties with Russia and the only reason for Michael Flynn's resignation is the fact that he got caught. This is very disturbing and I'm sure there is more to come.
ReplyDeleteIt's worrying that the foreign relations under our president are so vaguely described, and we are unsure of the boundaries as "friends" between the US and Russia that President Trump describes.
ReplyDeleteTrump is forming the reputation of the Unites States as untrustworthy and unreliable through the choices he makes concerning the people in his administration. I can only hope that other nations see through this and look closer as Americans as a whole.
