Chloe Dupuy- A Few Things You (Probably) Don’t Know About Thanksgiving
Four things you probably didn't know about Thanksgiving where brought to the light.
One, it wasn't actually thanksgiving. In terminology, "thanksgiving" is a prayerful fasting period, but when Young published the letter he wrote it in that way, so now it is stuck in our history. Two, A year before the first thanksgiving the pilgrims raised Native American graves. Three, the pilgrims could only settle in Plymouth because thousands of Natives died from disease. Lastly, the peace that led up to the first thanksgiving was driven by trade and tribal rivalries.
I feel like everything I learned is a lie. The natives were using the pilgrims for strength. The pilgrims were using the natives for trade. I'm glad to be learning this information a few days before thanksgiving because it gave me insight of history that I didn't know. This article was written by National Geographic, which is a pretty reliable source (meaning they more than likely are telling the real truth.) 395 years later this is all connected to the first thanksgiving in 1621.

ReplyDeleteThis is actually a good topic to blog, because many people don't know the truth being Thanksgiving and just attend for dinner. -JADA BROWN
