Heartwarming Slam Dunk Contest- Wallis Brown

Bobby Weitzel, a man in Pennsylvania, is nothing short of a celebrity at Reading high school. Bobby started volunteering at Reading high school in 1969, and continued to come in, even when a 30-feet fall broke his back in three places in 1977. This accident left Bobby physically disabled, adding to his intellectual disabilities. But Bobby still came and volunteered. After all these years of Bobby serving the high school, asking nothing in return, Reading High School, with the help of the "Dude. Be Nice" company, decided to give back to him. The school asked Bobby to be the judge of a school-wide slam dunk contest, and he accepted. What Bobby didn't know was that in the end, HE would win the contest. As the final contestant stood up to slam dunk, he asked bobby to assist him. So, Bobby hobbled over the court with his walker, and threw the ball to the boy. The boy made the shot, and Bobby held up a"10" on his judging board. Then, the representatives of "Dude. Be nice." turned Bobby around, to see that the stands full of students were clapping and cheering his name. They sat Bobby down, and gave him a crown. Students told Bobby about how much they appreciate and love him"This school is known as 'The castle on a hill'. Guess what? Today... You're the king of that castle." Cheers broke out and Bobby realized how loved he is.

I cried watching the video. I love good news. I love seeing heartwarming stories, with pure and sweet people and intentions. There is so much bad in this world. So many horrifying stories on the news, about hatred, ignorance, and violence. The way these kids cared so much for a volunteer, and in turn, the way this man, after suffering through a tremendous injury, continued to volunteer at the school, just gives me hope for the human race. I wish this beautiful man a wonderful, long life, full of amazing people like him.

  1. I agree with your opinion over this situation. It's so heart warming for all of these people to make Bobby happy. I hope people get inspired by this and do it to someone else that would make their day.
