Supreme Court controversy- Emily Eppig 8th
Recently the Supreme Court has decided to not even consider allowing states to decide wether they will allow semi-automatic, high-caliber weapons. The decision has outraged gun control activists and worried US citizens alike. Due to the spike in mass public shootings over the past 5 years, gun control has been a major concern in our country. Assault weapons have been used in many of these shootings and are fairly easy for any American, mentally stable or not, to obtain. Although I don't believe we should put a ban on all weapons on account for many use them for protection, the sale of these aggressive weapons seems illegitimate to this claim. They're called assault rifles not defense rifles. I also believe that guns don't aren't the sole perpetrators of these events. Thus raises questions of what is the Supreme Court going to do in order to protect citizens against unstable or disturbed individuals. Due to the level of desensitizing that we've all experienced, I believe this issue is one of the most important to address. If the government doesn't do something about this soon, we may have a colossal issue of domestic terrorism on our hands.

I completely agree, and it's rather terrifying to think about! The fact that they're even called "assault" weapons instead of "defense" weapons should tell you something pretty important as to how these weapons are being used! It makes me really nervous just thinking about it.
