SHELBY FLOWERS

Why Mass Shootings Spur Conspiracy Theories

Mass shootings spark the ultimate in setting off conspiracy theories.  The most recent event in San Bernardino where 14 innocent people lost their lives has set off a blast of tweets and other social media explosions claiming that the government is behind all of the shootings. It seems that the theorist believe that the government is secretly conspiring to do a mass take over of the American people and create laws that would take our guns out of our hands and into theirs.  These right wing groups of theorist believe that Obama is the leader of a unit of terrorist who is trying to bestow his beliefs upon all Americans and take away the democracy that we were founded upon.  Reality is that if it was true, it would literally be one of the most horrible and inhuman acts that one human being could possibly do to another.  This group also believes that Obama has a forged birth certificate from Hawaii and that he is much deeper into the Muslim faith and he is a power control freak.  God help us all if there is any truth to this theory at all.

Analysis:

This author is trying to inform us that this is a real belief and that this group of crazies is really trying to make the American people feel scared and threatened.  It isn’t until the end of the article that he lends a little insight that it is all politically motivated.  He points out that the horror of the event is one thing, but the horror of the reason or truth behind the event is the worst.
My take on this idea is that we could be facing a government that wants to take over the world and take away our freedom.  Chances are high for the idea, but to kill innocent people and cause such grief and turmoil is hard to believe.  I truly want our country to remain as it was founded, freedom of religion, freedom of choices and freedom to voice our concerns.
