Homeless emergency declared in Hawaii
The Governor of Hawaii declared an emergency proclamation to combat homelessness. These types of proclamations are generally reserved for natural disasters. Hawaii has over 7,600 homeless people, this may sound small compared to other states but in relation to the general population, it has the highest homelessness rate of all the states. The proclamation gives $1.3 million to establishing permanent housing for these people.
This is good that a govenor is using his power in a way that benefits the people. This seems like a very good plan and it's good they consider this an emergency because it affects thousands of people every single day. Homelessness is such an urgent problem because so much can happen each day they are left outside without shelter. There's enough houses in America for every homeless person to have somewhere to stay yet they can't. This is so sad, just like the fact that theres enough food and medicine out there yet people still starve and are ill. We need to change the system and create an more even distribution of wealth. This relates to the way the Native American's shared their food with the European settlers, although this situation turned for the worst, the beginnings of sharing with those in need is still there

I saw something on a Ted Talks-like show the other day about an invention that provides shelter for homeless people and disaster victims. They're made out of cardboard, but they're not like boxes. They're cardboard material on the inside and water-resistant on the outside, and they're folded like origami to make the entire thing sturdy. They look and function like tents, and they're super cheap and easy to manufacture. I think Hawaii would benefit from these!
