Plane made unplanned stop when pilot died- Isabella Montague

An American Airlines flight with 147 passengers was on its way from Pheonix to Boston when the pilot stopped breathing and became unresponsive from unknown reasons. A flight attendant with some medical experience tried to save the him, but the pilot passed away. Fortunately, the co-pilot was able to fly the plane safely into Syracuse, New York, since the regulations stated that there must be two pilots at all times. American Airlines have publicly spoken that they are deeply saddened by the death of the pilot, but have not yet given the name of the pilot or how what exactly he died from.

Even though death is of course always very sad, it is nice to hear that the passengers made it safely to the ground. These certain circumstances are why there is a pilot and a co-pilot. I think that is very essential so that in case of emergency there is a back-up pilot to make sure everybody lands safely. For example, if there was a group of 90 Spainards sailing to the New World, it would be very unfortunate for them if the only four people that knew how to sail a boat died of sickness. Everyone else would just have to learn how.

  2. Freak incidents like this really scare people, but instead of taking note of the pilot dying, people should focus on the fact that the back up plan that was in place was used and was effective. This story shows that although two pilots may seem superfluous sometimes, it is important to always be careful. I would rather be safe than sorry.
