Jennifer Lawrence in the gender pay gap. Fernanda Sandoval

http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2015/10/15/448954732/jennifer-lawrence-hits-a-nerve-with-essay-on-hollywoods-gender-pay-gap.
Jennifer Lawrence recently wrote an essay saying how frustrated she was about not pushing for higher pay to star in the film American Hustle, especially after the recent Sony hack showed that she had received significantly less than her co star Bradly Cooper, Jeremy Renner, and Christian Bale. She didn't get mad at the studio but rather at herself saying  that she failed as a negotiator because she gave up early. During negotiations she said that she didn't want to seem demanding or spoiled so she tried to make her requests and arguments adorable so that people would still like her. After looking back on the leaked payroll on the internet she realized that the men on cast didn't worry about sounding spoiled or difficult so she tied her hesitancy to gender expectations.
many have argued that having Hollywood celebrities ,who make millions of dollars, fight for the closing in the gender pay gap is hardly what females need seeing as there is a huge difference between asking for a million more dollars on a movie payment and being a single mom struggling to put dinner on the table. in my opinion we should publicize normal women fighting for the close in the gender pay gap and not just wealthy Hollywood celebrities. Don't get me wrong i love Jennifer Lawrence and all and her problem is just as big because she is a woman but the fact that this would get more publicity for being "controversial" than a normal woman fighting for equality to men's wages seems far more important.

  1. This is interesting. I'm not that big a fan of her but it's pretty cool that she's taking notice to this.

  2. I think it's great that this issue is being addressed. Hopefully shedding some light on the situation and how the inequality is even seen among professional actors will help promote change.

I am glad that the issue of wage gap is being addressed, even at the huge scale that is the payment of movie stars.
