Church Band Member Killed by Police Officer-Nicholas Watson, 9th

Summary:
On Sunday around 1;45 a.m. The band, Future Prezidents, had just finished performing when Matthew , the bands bass player, got a call from Corey Jones, the bands drummer. Jones told Matthew that his truck had broken down on the highway and that he was stranded. So Matthew drove out with a can of oil. After seeing that the oil wasn't working the two began looking up numbers for a tow truck. After about an hour Matthew eventually called roadside service for Jones, around 2:30 a.m., and headed home. While Jones waited foe the roadside service a cop pulled up, believing that it was an abandoned car, and proceeded to go inspect. The officer then said when he approached the vehicle that he was approached by a armed man and opened fire, killing Jones. Matthew then told sources the next day that he didn't quite believe that Jones was armed because he wasn't that kind of person, and that things may have been different if he would have been there.

Analysis:
This sad situation is a clear example of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and with the lack of information people can only make assumptions of what really happened. As of now its one mans word, and with that being the only source not much can be done. This situation, and many others like it, could in a way be related to the Boston Massacre when the soldiers opened on the citizens when they believed they were being attacked, when it was only snowballs. This situation relates because maybe the victim was mistaken for having a weapon, when maybe it was the gas can or some other tool, and the officer ended up responding to fast, which resulted in Jones' death. Either way this is a sad situation that I hope gets resolved.

  1. The police force has been very disappointing in my opinion lately. I think this is another example of them neglecting to do there job. They should investigate first, and the only fire if completely necessary. This is tragic.

  2. I think it is important that officers learn how to react smarter under pressure. They also cant always base their actions off of assumptions.
