Cameron Eisenberg- Chicago dad buys gun illegally, son accidentally gets shot

Story-Michael Santiago, 25, is being charged with illegally purchasing a gun and child endangerment. He used to be a gang member, where he got the gun. He was at work and his wife was at the store, so their 3 year old and 6 year old children were left in the care of their grandpa, Isreal LaSalle. The gun was loaded and hidden on top of the fridge. Isreal had sent the children to grab cleaning materials for the dog, and the children had started playing cop and robber. The 6 year old had gotten a hold of the gun and shot the 3 year old. He died in the hospital. Santiago is being held for a $75,000 bond. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 69 children have died due to accidental gun shots

Analysis- this is really sad, and has happened before. Sometimes children kill and hurt themselves or others, such as in 2013 death of a women who was shot by her 4 year old nephew.  Why do people put loaded guns around children?
