Boy accidentally shoots brother By: Emma Wall

http://www.cnn.com/2015/10/19/us/chicago-boy-accidentally-shoots-brother/index.html

The article above discusses the tragic event that took place in Chicago.  A boy who is 6 years of age accidentally murdered his little brother.  Police said that there was a loaded gun, which was illegally purchased, on top of the refrigerator.  The brothers were playing cops and robbers but not with any intentions of an outcome like this.  They are saying that the charges are being pressed against their dad who was a former gang member in Chicago.  Officials say that he purchased this gun illegally through the gang.

After reading this article I was astonished.  There are so many questions that I have about this story.  I don't understand why he would obtain a gun that obviously was easy to access.  I also am confused how a six year old got to the top of a refrigerator.  It is such a tragic loss.  I can't even imagine what it must have been like for the 6 year old.  Especially because he didn't realize that it was a real, loaded gun.  I think this is an example of the gun control issue.  It does not matter if there is gun control because most of the incidents we hear about on the news are about people who obtained guns illegally.  Furthermore, putting restrictions on gun control is not going to change certain people's minds about what they will do with their guns.  It is an issue that has developed over time and it is not going to go away.

  1. This made my heart sink and I almost threw up... It's so awful that guns can be obtained illegally so easily and such outcomes may result. I just thought about if this had been my brother and I as little kids... Luckily my parents guns' are all legal and locked away in safes and cases that we do not know the combinations to and are even then hidden away in parts of the house that are unbeknownst to us. These are horrible issues plaguing are society and resulting in the deaths of children... Something has to change.
