Apple bans hundreds of iPhone apps that secretly gathered personal info -Lia Kerkman 6

256 apps all created from the same Chinese software development company, Youmi, were all banned from apple recently. The apps all gathered and saved personal information about the user like email addresses and iphone serial numbers. Apple was not previously aware of the problem and removed the apps as soon as they were alerted. They have recently been running into even more probable apps that can get a hold of things like icloud passwords and messages.

With any type of technology comes risk. You always hear that once you put something out there, it's out there. However we rarely  think about when we enter our email and password into an app. We all know that we get junk mail from apps that we've given our email to, but where does it go from there? Apple is doing their best to be rid of this problem by denying all apps that come from this software.

  1. Well that's great and all but really every time you download an app and it asks you for permission to have access to all your friends, contacts, etc. It really shouldn't be all that shocking to hear that something like this happens.
