Baby House by Clara McLain

This story by Jim Steinberg is about a protest for a "maternity hotel" in the town of Chino Hills.  The large house where immigrant women go to give birth to anchor babies, which will allow them to either stay in the country or make becoming a US citizen easier.  Many local residents believe the practice to be immoral and are trying to shut down the establishment.  "City officials are dealing with code enforcement issues, but not with the alleged illegal maternity operation, Mayor Art Bennett has said."
Though this practice seems to be very backwoods, the clients pay a large sum of money to have their baby at the house, and the clients found out about the house after finding a link on the internet advertising it.  Crazy the extent people go through to be here.

  3. Do they have these babies ONLY because they want to stay in the US? Because that's kind of wrong... Then that baby will have to live it's life knowing that they weren't made out of the love of it's parents, but because it was seen as an only option to stay in this country. And if it doesn't work? If the parents still get deported? Then what? Then they will have another baby back in their country struggling to feed. Not to mention that the child will probably be seen as a let down. SAD!
